Well for over a year some of us have been Very excited to see the live action version of Avatar the last Airbender! We've explained to those outside the cartoon network fan base that this Avatar had Nothing to do with blue people and that it was creative story full of great characters and an amazing story line. Last night (or early this morning.) myself a friend of mine, her son and a fairly large group of excited fans lined up to see if M. Night Shyamalan could deliver on making the film the next great trilogy. With great expectation we all cheered as the film finally began. finally the rest of the world would understand what a great story this was. and we were all quickly disappointed.
The pronunciation of names were changed. The entire story was rushed. There was zero character development and you felt disconnected from them through out. The acting, though each actor had great potential, was sub par and even basic character traits were completely left out and/or changed. The effects were great! The costumes and settings perfect! Personally when i found out who was directing this film I was concerned that he would try to make it to big or turn it into a strange sci fi or adapt the story beyond it's need. I was wrong. He didn't even bother to do that much. It's almost as if he didn't even try to make it great but just needed to produce some thing.
Some of you out there may say that I only hated it because I'm a fan of the t.v. series. But this was as big a flop as the film version of Eragon and I fear it will kill this story just as quickly. Had these film makers been involved in the making of The Lord of the Rings, Narnia, Star Wars or even Twilight those films would also have died after the first release.
I've never seen the t.v. show and I strongly disliked it. The story had potential, but the acting was comically horrific. Much like Lucas with Star Wars episodes I-III, the acting and directing took away from a story line and mythos that had great potential.
ReplyDeleteExactly! makes me so frustrated that such a great story was so royally messed up!
